Britain working on package of military support and economic aid for Ukraine

Feb 14, 2022: According to a report by Reuters, Britain is working on a package of military support and economic aid for Ukraine as the threat of a Russian invasion grows, a government spokesperson said on Sunday.
An official spokesman said on Sunday that Britain was working on a package of military aid and economic aid to Ukraine as the threat of a Russian invasion increased. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will visit Europe this weekend to help end the standoff with Russia. Although Johnson did not say where he would go, his office said it wanted to engage more with the Nordic and Baltic states.
“The crisis on Ukraine’s border has reached a critical juncture. All the information we have suggests Russia could be a planning an invasion of Ukraine at any moment,” the spokesperson said.
Western allies, U.S and Britain have said that Russian President Vladimir Putin could order an attack on February 20, before the end of the Winter Olympics, which would be Europe’s biggest security crisis in decades. Russia, which has more than 100,000 troops on its border with Ukraine, has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s intelligence have been made more than once.”
A British government spokesperson said Johnson was working with allies on a package of support for Ukraine, which would be announced in the coming days. Britain is supplying Ukraine with anti-tank weapons and training personnel, despite the fact that the troops were ordered to leave over the weekend.
Britain’s support for Ukraine comes as Johnson faces his worst domestic political crisis in the prime ministerial office, with police investigating lockdown parties at his Downing Street office and residence.
Allegations of breaching COVID-19 restrictions undermined Johnson’s authority and forced some lawmakers from his ruling Conservative Party, as well as opposition leaders, to demand his resignation.
