A Border Security Force (BSF) soldier has been taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers after he accidentally crossed the International Border (IB) in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector on Wednesday afternoon, Army sources told India Today TV.

The incident occurred on Wednesday while the solider, identified as Constable PK Singh of the 182nd BSF battalion, was on duty near farmland close to the Indo-Pak border. During the routine movement, Singh inadvertently moved beyond the Indian border fence and entered Pakistani territory, where he was detained by the Pakistan Rangers across the Ferozepur border.

Singh was in uniform and carried his service rifle. He was accompanying farmers when he moved ahead to rest in a shade and was taken into custody by Pakistani soldiers.

Following his detention, officials from both the Indian Army and Pakistan Rangers initiated a flag meeting to resolve the matter and secure the soldier’s release.

Talks are currently ongoing, but the jawan has not yet been handed back, sources said, adding that efforts are underway to ensure his safe and early return.
