Cancellation of bail of Mir Shakil ur Rehman by LHC challenged in SC

ISLAMABAD, July 13 (Online): Mir Shakil ur Rehman has challenged Lahore High Court (LHC) decision on revocation of his bail in Supreme Court (SC).
He has taken the plea in his petition that his age is 63 and he neither holds any public office nor has any corruption allegation been leveled against him. NAB laws don’t apply to him. Inquiry cannot be conducted in the perspective of 34 years old agreement on vague and baseless allegations. NAB can not conduct proceedings in respect of agreement between two persons without the complaint of Lahore Development Authority (LDA). Arresting him during the verification process of complaint constitutes violation of his fundamental rights.
The petitioner said his abscondment is not proved from the record. Appearing by him in person dispels the impression of any act of abscondment by him.
The petitioner has prayed the court to set aside the LHC decision about cancellation of his bail besides nullifying his arrest warrants.
The petitioner further requested the court to declare illegal and nullify his detention under NAB besides issuing his release orders.
Chairman NAB and others have been made respondents in the petition.
The petitioner has further taken the stance he was arrested in the guise of arrest warrants issued by chairman NAB on March 12. Civilian and military governments remained unhappy with Jang group due to independent and fair journalism of Jang Group since the last 60 years.
When chairman NAB video came to public then Geo News broadcast the news to save the prestige of accountability process. Later Geo News was intimidated through NAB particularly due to Shahzeb Khanzada program that PEMRA will shut this program. At the behest of NAB, NEPRA issued notices to GEO News and started imposing fine.
Geo resorted to LHC. The incumbent government, Punjab and KP provincial governments got displeased over it and they suspended provision of advertisements fully. Our business confidence collapsed owing to NAB-Government nexus. Later government realized that harassing the citizens and business community by NAB on day to day basis is causing loss. The traders community and bureaucracy apprised army chief and Prime Minister of their concerns about economy. The government provided security to traders community, citizens and bureaucracy through an ordinance on December 28, 2019.
Promulgating ordinance tantamounts to admit it that NAB has gone uncontrollable.
NAB said with reference to SOPs issued on October 8, 2019 that written reply will be sought from traders community with regard to allegations against them. A questionnaire will be sent if the reply is found unsatisfactory. Regional NAB DG will be authorised to summon the traders if their reply and reply to questionnaire are not found satisfactory.
The petition further said that NAB issued notice to Mir Shakil ur Rehman on February 28 without implementing the SOPs. Mir Shakil Rehman was arrested despite demonstration of good intent and cooperation from him with NAB.
