Cannoli Restaurant Boycotted: Read important tweets inside

Islamabad, 21st January: Since yesterday, a video has gone viral on social media clearly pointing out our contemptible behaviour towards our lower staff.
Baaghi TV: A viral video of a high-end restaurant’s owners making fun of one of their staff members has sparked a boycott trend on social media pages.
According to reports, the owners of Islamabad’s Cannoli restaurant by Cafe Soul have instigated a #BoycottCannoli trend on Twitter and Facebook.

In the video, the owners of Cannoli restaurant, two women, can be seen making fun of their staff member for his English speaking skills.
The women in the video can be heard saying, “So, this is our manager who has been with us for nine years. And this is the beautiful English he speaks. This is what we paid for and a very good salary, mind you.”
People on Twitter have severely lashed out at the mean-mindedness of the owners, who have shown not only the thinking of our so-called upper-class but the general outlook towards our lower staff too.
Just got sent this. Sick to my stomach. No words for our eNgLisH fLueNt elites. Never seen more tone deaf women with this confidence. pic.twitter.com/5eIj9hWOnZ

People have condemned their actions in different ways:
We need to accept that English is just a language not a measure of intelligence.#BoycottCannoli pic.twitter.com/1pu0pIWzvd

Twitteratis are also calling it as workplace harassment, being carried out by two elite women. Since a male is at the receiving end of the harassment, it will not be taken up as a legal matter.

This is also bullying at a workplace that should be discouraged:

Important to mention here is the tweet by Shaniera Akram, wife of Pakistan cricket player Wasim Akram. Shaniera is always seen highlighting important issues of our country that need to be dealt with.
I know what it’s like being put on the spot to speak another language, even if you know how to speak it, especially if you’re a shy person it’s hard to do when it’s forced, not to mention in front of a camera for someone’s own personal entertainment. Sad to see https://t.co/86jbMBzvcF

Pakistan’s famous actor Haroon Shahid also shared his concerns on Twitter:
Obviously not siding with these ladies for their behavior but by boycotting the restaurant aren't we contributing in getting the staff unemployed?
Already, half the people blame us for voting for IK and increasing poverty and unemployment in 🇵🇰 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️#BoycottCannoli— Haroon Shahid (@Haroon_5hahid) January 21, 2021

Cynthia D Ritchie, the US blogger, living in Pakistan for many years also expressed her thoughts on the latest trend on Twitter:
Re: #BoycottCannoliIslamabad #BoycottCannoli
It's good to see many ppl supporting the manager of Cannoli. I hope someone offers him a better job.
Women struggle in many ways, so it's truly sad to see 'empowered' women treat one of their loyal employees of 9 years this way. https://t.co/aAAQHI1Siq

According to reports gathered by Baaghi TV, the owners of the restaurant, Uzma Chaudary and Dia Haider, purportedly recorded a 1-minute video clip as they were ‘bored’ and decided to humiliate their employee, Awais Aftab, who failed to impress the ‘English-speaking elites’.
Reportedly, the video was posted on the restaurant’s official Instagram page but taken down immediately. But social media never forgets and it was uploaded on Twitter and on various food groups on Facebook within minutes.
It is disgusting to see how owners of a cafe seem to be bragging about their English speaking skills in the video and putting down an employee and making him a laughing stock.
