Lahore: Nazia Khan, a Pakistani-American clinical psychologist, has said that the cause of abuse, murder and growing psychological problems in Pakistan are due to intolerance, social injustice and distance from Islamic teachings, for which psychologists, teachers and parents as well as all sections of society need to play their role to eradicate.
While talking to media during her visit to Pakistan, Nazia Khan said that there should be a health curriculum in every educational institution and the government should appoint a psychologist in every institution.
She said that physical activities of children should be made compulsory in schools, colleges and universities.
In order to build a healthy society, there should also be opportunities for recreation for the students and children as a healthy body has a healthy mind, she added.
In response to a question, Nazia Khan said that nowadays parents do not have time for their children due to which the training of the child is not correct. Parents should keep a close eye on their children while the growing use of internet in children needs to be curtailed keeping an eye on what they are watching while they are using internet.
” Parents should give quality time to their children so that they can be trained properly for becoming a useful citizen of the society.
Explaining the reason for suicide due to failure in children, American psychologist Nazia Khan said that if children do not get good marks in exams, instead of scolding them, explain to them not to put pressure and do not force the children to read what he or she does not wants to read.
“Let them choose the field in which they want to work. When parents force him to do it, the children go into depression. When the children make a mistake, explain it to them with love. One of the reasons for our social problems is distance from Islamic teachings. Neighbors should have good relations with neighbors. Go to relatives and attend marriage ceremonies. Lifestyle changes need to be made to go to bed early at night and get up early in the morning,” she added.
The provision of justice is very important for the formation of a healthy society, she concluded.
