Centre Failed to Address Load-Shedding Problem, Accepts Omar Ayub Khan

Islamabad July 18 (Online Int’l): Minister for Power and Energy Omar Ayub Khan accepts that the federal government failed to address the load-shedding problem in the country, a document available with Online reveals.

The Power Minister, in the document, accepts that as many as 12 hours load-shedding is being done in the country. However, he holds power thieves, an out-dated power system and load management responsible for the ministry’s inability to control the menace of load-shedding.

The document states that an estimated eight to 12 hours load-management is being observed, adding that eight to 12 hours load-shedding is being made on 474 feeder-line, six hours on 623 feeder-line and four hours on 390 feeder-line. The power ministry lost 16 billion units electricity last year in terms of power theft, he said, adding that this power is sufficient to meet two months power needs during the summer.

Around 14.72% electricity was stolen during fiscal year 2018-2019, the document further states. KPK is on the top in power theft while Punjab is on the second and Sindh third.

PESCO wasted more than 5 billion units in terms of power theft, LESCO more than 1 billion units and FESCO 210 million units.
