Chairman NAB’s Appointment: Khan or Sharifs’ Decision?

Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s appointment decision has been made in consultation with the President, Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif, said the Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem.

He also stated:

“In case there is no consensus, the matter will go to the parliamentary committee. There is no difference between my statement and that of Fawad Chaudhry.”

Meanwhile, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry maintained that Imran Khan would not talk to Shahbaz Sharif.

Federal Law Minister and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry held a joint press conference. On this occasion, Farogh Naseem said that the old chairman NAB will continue to work in the post till the new chairman is appointed.

In case of disagreement between parties, regarding the appointment of NAB chairman, the speaker would form a parliamentary committee while the parliamentary committee would consist of 6.6 members from government and opposition. The Federal Law Minister said that the powers regarding bail were being given to the High Court while the judges in the accountability courts would be appointed in consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court.

In a press conference, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry claimed:

“We are bringing an ordinance, the second part of which will also be an act. We invite the opposition if they want to give their opinion.”

Fawad Chaudhry said that the Prime Minister will not consult the Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif, directly, at all. He did not ask the President whether he would consult Shahbaz Sharif or not. After which the opposition can be consulted and not Shahbaz Sharif, while after the ordinance we will also bring an act.

He said that NAB should not expand its scope as it did not understand while NAB has to keep an eye on the corruption of big fish. NAB was created to stop big corruption. The NAB has become a strong institution.
