Beijing, June 18th: India and China have reached a reconciliation, according to reports. Two days after the death of 20 Indian soldiers in a clash on the Sino-Indian border in Ladakh, a phone call was made between the foreign ministers of China and India.
According to sources, in a telephone conversation, the two foreign ministers agreed to abide by existing bilateral agreements to ensure law and order on the disputed Himalayan border.
Opinions among Indian analysts were divided, with some saying that New Delhi should refrain from joining the US-led anti-China, at least not because the prospect of an agreement with China was partisan.
India said that Foreign Minister SJ Shankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi “agreed that the whole situation would be handled responsibly and the two sides would sincerely implement the June 6th agreement.”
The Indian statement further said that there would be no escalation of tensions between the two sides and instead peace and harmony would be ensured in accordance with bilateral agreements and protocols.
On the other hand, a newspaper affiliated with the ruling Communist Party of China wrote that according to the summary of the conversation, China said that the phone call would help normalize the situation.
According to the statement, “Wherever he expressed his position, he also used a tone that normalized the situation, which would create public opinion in both countries.”

“India in particular must live up to its promise and implement the agreement between the two countries,” the Global Times added. “The border dispute is the most sensitive part of India-China relations and only when it is resolved, the two countries will work together,” the statement added.
The newspaper quoted the Chinese foreign minister as saying that it was India that deliberately provoked and violently attacked the Chinese foreign minister. According to the French news agency AFP, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that “the Foreign Minister has called on India to conduct a full investigation and punish those responsible for the conflict.”

The statement added that “India should not make the wrong decision in the current situation, nor should it underestimate China’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial sovereignty.” On the other hand, the Indian Foreign Minister “recorded the strongest protest on the violent clash that took place on June 15th in the Gulwan Valley.”
It is believed that the phone call was made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time in response to the deadly clash in which not a single bullet was fired.
