Lahore, 16th March: China is all set to issue visas to foreigners including Pakistanis who have taken the Chinese coronavirus vaccine.
Baaghi TV: According to reports, China will be easing border restrictions and allow some foreigners from the United States, India and Pakistan, provided they have taken a Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccine.
Since last March China had been closed to most foreigners to contain the spread of coronavirus which it has largely brought under control at home, leaving many foreigners with jobs and family inside China overseas.
However, now the Chinese embassies in several countries have issued notices saying the country will open visa applications to people who have taken the Chinese jab.
A statement by the Chinese Embassy in the US on Monday said that it would begin to process ‘visa applicants inoculated with Chinese Covid-19 vaccines’.
As per reports from Dawn News, this would apply from this week to those visiting the Chinese mainland for resuming their work, business travel, or for humanitarian needs, such as reuniting with family members.
The statement by the embassy also said this applied to those who had either had two doses of the vaccine or a single-dose at least 14 days before applying for the visa.
Chinese embassies in India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Italy and Sri Lanka have published similar statements.
Those arriving in China will still have to face a strict quarantine of up to three weeks.
China’s vaccines have been sent to several countries around the world, including Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia and Cambodia.
