Mar 7, 2022: According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed the hope that China and India will be partners for mutual success instead of adversaries of mutual attrition.

“We must make sure that our relationship moves forward on the right track,” Wang said.

He said that only by staying independent can the two sides firmly grasp their own destiny and realise goals of development and rejuvenation.

Wang said that with regard to the long-standing border issue, China has always sought to resolve differences through consultation on an equal footing and to find a just and reasonable solution, without affecting or interfering with the larger picture of bilateral cooperation.

He added that the combined population of China and India is over 2.8 billion and it is one third of humanity. He further said that when the two countries achieve stability and prosperity and live in peace and harmony, there will be a strong foundation for world peace and prosperity.

The Foreign Minister said countries should help each other achieve their goals, rather than “draining each other’s energy.” Relations between the two Asian giants soured in June 2020 after a deadly border clash in the Galvan Valley, in which at least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed.

At an annual press briefing in Beijing, Wang acknowledged that relations with India had suffered “some setbacks” in recent years. He said that “some powers” have tried to create conflict and division between China and India.
