KARACHI: The embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan has issued a statement to confirm that its convoy transporting Chinese staff was attacked near the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

Issuing a statement on their website, the Chinese embassy confirmed a convoy transporting its Chinese staff for the Port Qasim Electric Power Company (Private) Limited was attacked near the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi at around 11 pm on 6th October. 

In the incident, two Chinese workers were killed while another was injured, including local casualties.

The attack has been strongly condemned by the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan who have termed it a “terrorist attack”. Expressing deep condolences to the families of the victims, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan have offered “sincere sympathies” to the families of the wounded, assuring that they are making “every effort to handle the aftermath together with the Pakistani side”.

The Consulates General and the Chinese Embassy have launched an emergency plan immediately, requesting Pakistani authorities to investigate thoroughly and severely punish the perpetrators.

Launching an emergency plan, the Consulates General and the Chinese Embassy have requested Pakistani authorities to thoroughly investigate, severely punish the perpetrators and take necessary measures to ensure the protection of the Chinese citizens and/or institutions and ongoing projects in Pakistan.

On the other hand, Chinese authorities have cautioned Chinese citizens, businesses and projects to remain “vigilant, pay close attention to the security situation, strengthen security measures, and make every effort to take safety precautions”.

According to a BBC report, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the blast that targeted the Chinese convoy. It is pertinent to mention that the BLA has carried out multiple attacks against Chinese nationals in recent years.
