On Wednesday, Chinese authorities executed a couple for throwing two toddlers out of the window of an apartment building.
According to local media reports, Zhang Bo, the father of the children, and Ye Chengchen were found guilty of murdering the two-year-old girl and one-year-old boy in 2020. Soon after the couple began their affair, Zhang Bo divorced his wife and began conspiring to kill his children.

Ruling out the motive as “extremely malicious” the Chinese Supreme Court highlighted the “cruel methods” employed by the couple executed in the south-western city of Chongqing, on Wednesday. While there is no clear report on how the execution was carried out, most death sentences are carried out by lethal injection or a firing squad in China, reported the BBC.
During the trial, it was revealed that although Ye was not aware of Zhang Bo’s marital status, she continued the relationship after knowing of the truth. In February 2020, Zhang divorced his wife but Ye continued to view his children as “obstacles for her to get married to Zhang and burdens for their future life together”.

Despite the “inappropriate” nature of their relationship, after Zhang’s divorce from his wife, Ye pressured him to murder the toddlers. Eventually conspiring to stage an accidental fall, the court heard. According to a BBC report, on 2 November 2020, Zhang threw his kids out of the apartment window from the fifteenth floor.
News of the couple’s execution began to trend on Weibo, a social media site, with a user commenting: “They totally deserve it for their crime”. The comment has been liked by over thirty thousand people. Another user wrote: “Hope the kids only have peace and joy in their next life”.
