Chinese Prime Minister arrives in Pakistan for SCO Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received his Chinese counterpart, Prime Minister Li Qiang at Noor Khan Airbase in Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Ata Tarar were also with the Prime Minister.

This visit is the first visit of any Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan after 11 years. After exiting the plane, the Chinese Prime Minister shook hands with PM Sharif. The Chinese PM was given a red carpet welcome followed by a 21-gun salute at the airport on his arrival in Islamabad. Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chinese Prime Minister continued their talk.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif boarded the car and left for the Prime Minister House.

Upon arrival at the PM House, the Chinese dignitary will be presented with a guard of honour. Pakistan Television telecast live the reception of the Chinese Prime Minister and the guard of honor at the Prime Minister’s House. Chinese Prime Minister’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and meetings will also be held at the level of delegations.

The Prime Ministers will participate in the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding China-Pakistan cooperation, which includes CPEC-2 as well as other major projects. The ceremony also includes virtual inauguration of Gwadar International Airport.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will give lunch in honor of the Chinese Prime Minister, who is in Pakistan for a four-day visit on the occasion of the SCO Summit, a very high-level event is taking place in Islamabad.

It is pertinent to mention that the SCO Summit will be held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16, hosted by Pakistan. The 23rd meeting will be chaired by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif at Jinnah Convention Center. Heads and high-level delegations of China, Russia, India, Central Asian states and other member states will participate in this meeting which is of great diplomatic importance for Pakistan, as it will discuss the important issues of the region, including economic development, security cooperation and regional stability issues.

In view of the importance of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), extraordinary security measures have been taken in Islamabad. Security will be on high alert during this conference, road patrols, check posts at entrances and exits, and security cameras have been installed at important places so that any untoward situation can be dealt with in a timely manner. India’s participation in this conference has also become a center of attention at the global level, because there has been tension in the relations between the two countries in recent years.
