Citizenship certificate issued to woman detained in India

ISLAMABAD: Certificate of Pakistani citizenship has been issued to Sameera, a Pakistani detained in India, announced Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Thursday. According to the Interior Minister, Pakistani citizenship certificate was issued to Sameera through NADRA (National Database Registration Authority)  after verification of her family.

After the issuance of the travel document, Pakistani citizens will be able to return home. According to the sources, the Interior Ministry has sent a letter of citizenship certificate to the Foreign Ministry. It has also been reported that Sameera’s four-year-old daughter will also be returning to Pakistan.

The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi would issue a travel document to Sameera with the confirmation of citizenship.

It should also be noted that a Pakistani woman started advocating for Sameera in 2017. Sameera married an Indian Muslim in Qatar and wanted to live with her husband in India. In May of 2017, Sameera was arrested along with her husband. Devastated by her situation, she decided to return to Pakistan. Sameera was sentenced to three years of prison along with a fine of 100,000 Indian rupees.

Moreover, Iraqi Ambassador, Hamid Abbas had a meeting with Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed. During the meeting, issues of mutual interests including Pak-Iraq bilateral relations were discussed and facilities for tourists and visitors were discussed between Pakistan and Iraq. It was also emphasized that the two countries ministries need to strengthen ties to enhance security cooperation. The Iraqi Ambassador said that there is a need to enhance ties between Pakistan and Iraq for the development of bilateral relations.

The Federal Interior Minister also said that Pakistan strongly condemns terrorist attacks all over the world including Iraq. Being a country with marks of terrorist attacks, Pakistan will do everything in its power to bring peace and stability to all regions.
