India: In a shocker for Assam, sexual assault of a Class 6 boy in a central government-run school in Kamrup district for three months has come to light. Seven Class 11 students have been detained.

The survivor’s medical examination has been conducted.

The accused and the survivor are minors and are students of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rangia in Kamrup, NDTV reported.

According to the complaint filed by school principal, the Class 6 boy and the accused stayed at the boys’ hostel. The child initially remained silent due to fear but later wrote a detailed account to guardians his parents, who then approached the school authorities.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at Rangia police station, reported NDTV.

A juvenile court has sent the boys to a correctional home for 14 days. The survivor’s medical examination has been conducted. Police are recording statements of the accused and school authorities.

Police have said they are also looking at the role of school authorities and whether safeguards to prevent such activities on campus are in place. Footage of CCTV cameras on the school and hostel premises is being scanned for clues, police sources have said.
