CM Elahi dissociates himself from Gill’s statement

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, while speaking on Geo TV, has dissociated himself from former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s chief of staff Shahbaz Gill’s inciting remarks.

Speaking of the incident, the newly-elected chief minister Punjab advised Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan to disown Shahbaz Gill’s statements.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that Chairman Imran Khan’s directives were clear: anyone who speaks ill of the army is not a Pakistani.

The chief minister said that the PTI leadership should separate itself from Shahbaz Gill’s remarks and added that he too, has made a statement regarding the situation.

A court in Islamabad granted a two-day physical remand of Shahbaz Gill to the police. When reporters surrounded Gill whilst he was being taken to appear in front of the court, he said that he isn’t ‘ashamed’ of his statements.

Furthermore, the chief minister revealed on Geo TV that he rebuked Shahbaz Gill’s remarks against the army, and inquired that in what capacity did he think he could dictate his party’s narrative.

Pervaiz Elahi claimed that he reminded Gill that these are the institutions of our country. “You gave a statement against the army, are you dumb?” Elahi said while speaking of his berating conversation with Gill.

The chief minister stated that Shahbaz Gill’s statement inflicted damage upon PTI and its allies.
