Washington (5th Mar, 2020): Founder Facebook, Mark Zuckerburg, offers free advertising to the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent fake news from circulating about the recent Coronavirus.

According to reports, the CEO stated in his post that the social media site is offering free advertisement to WHO to address the timely needs, which are aimed at transmitting accurate information to the public pertaining to the Coronavirus, identified as COVID-19.

According to Zuckerburg , people who make use of inaccurate information such as claiming they have the cure for COVID-19, to garner public attention will be blocked.

It is to be noted that with the number of confirmed cases increasing globally, people have become more fearful and hoping to find a solution against the novel virus. Thereby, there have been multiple incidents where consumers have claimed that they can prevent Coronavirus. Facebook founder argues that this makes it harder for the website to promote verified information as it gets pushed back by inaccurate information.

Furthermore, he stated that when users type ‘Coronavirus’ into the search bar on Facebook, a popup will appear providing them with the latest updates of verified information from either their local health authority or by the World Health Organization. Additionally, he stated that the upcoming Annual Developer Conference to be held in San Jose, California has been cancelled due to the novel Coronavirus.

It is to be noted that the deadly Coronavirus spread from Wuhan city of China and has killed approximately 2,981 people in China, while the number of affected people is 80,282 out of which 50,000 people have reportedly recovered. Conversely, it has spread to other countries where nearly 240 people have lost their lives so far, with the highest casualties being reported in Iran, Italy and South Korea, respectively.
