EASA recommends not to schedule Pakistani pilots

Islamabad, 12th March: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suffered a loss of Rs 2 billion, after the outbreak of coronavirus in the Saudi Kingdom following the temporary ban on Umrah.

PIA officials told reporters on Tuesday that the airlines’ schedule has been seriously disturbed as tickets of 50,000 passengers have been cancelled so far.

They further said that 34 flights to Medina and 13 to Mecca were scheduled weekly for business visa and iqama holders despite fewer passengers. It was reported that a 48-hour ban on Umrah pilgrims imposed by the Saudi government to avoid spreading coronavirus cost Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) approximately Rs180 million.

Saudi Arabia extends ban on Umrah visitors till 31st March

On the other hand, PIA has decided to suspend flights to Italy’s financial hub Milan amid the outbreak of coronavirus where 463 deaths have been reported so far.

PIA operates flights from Lahore and Islamabad airports to Milan and now the flights would remain suspended till the 31st of March. Furthermore, the financial loss is expected to climb due to the suspension of flight operations for Qatar and Iran as well.
