Corruption of billions in CAA, investigation started
Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), since a long time, has been planning to install e-gate system including fingerprint biometrics technology at seven major airports around the country. According to details, the main purpose of the installation of e-gate system was to scan eligible travellers passports and clear their immigration without any delay. However, this has not been the first time CAA intended to initiate this project. Baaghi TV has learnt that through a notice printed in a newspaper on January 10, 2010, Pakistan’s CAA invited Request For Proposal (RFP) from parties interested in this project. After that, once again in March 2020, Aviation Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamy, while talking to Emirates Airlines Vice President Mohammad Sarhan, stated that CAA plans to install e-gates at seven major airports around the country. Sources say that this contract was given to a French technology company, IDEMIA. According to sources, IDEMIA is blacklisted by the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB) in other countries, including Kenya, for breaching different contractual agreements.
