COVID-19: ‘Fire-Break’ Lockdown in Wales
Wales, 19th October: Wales in the UK will go into a fire-breaker lockdown after the surge in coronavirus cases.
According to the recent reports from BBC, Wales will go into a “short, sharp” national lockdown from Friday, 23 October until Monday, 9 November.
During this lockdown, people will stay home, while pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops will close down.
There is reportedly a half-term break in the schools due to which primary schools will reopen after the break, but only years Seven and Eight in secondary schools will return at that time.
Universities will continue to provide a blend of in-person and online learning to the students.
As part of the ‘Firebreak’ lockdown, indoor and outdoor gatherings with people will be banned. Leisure businesses, community centres, libraries and recycling centres will shut. Places of worship will be closed for normal services, except for funerals and weddings.
The rules reported at the BBC News which are similar to the lockdown in March are as follows:
- People will have to stay at home except for very limited reasons, such as exercise
- People must work from home where they can
- People must not visit other households or meet other people they do not live with either indoors and outdoors
- All non-food retail will shut, and cafes, restaurants and pubs will close unless they provide delivery or takeaways
- Hairdressers, hotels and beauticians will have to shut
Adults living alone or single parents will be able to join with one other household for support from anywhere in Wales.
The announcement has come after the rising number of cases in Wales and increasing hospital admissions and replaces the 17 local lockdowns that had been in place.
The latest coronavirus toll stands at 130 coronavirus cases per 100,000 over seven days and there were 4,127 cases recorded between 9 and 15 October.
