Cricketer Umar Akmal’s sentence reduced?

According to the report of Baaghi TV, the petition of cricketer Umar Akmal to reduce his sentence to 3 years has been accepted.

Umar Akmal gets major relief, as sentence is reduced from 3 to one and half years. The safe verdict was pronounced on Umar Akmal’s appeal.

On July 13, former Supreme Court judge Justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, in his capacity as Independent Adjudicator Omar Akmal, had reserved judgment in the case after hearing arguments from both the parties at a hearing at the National High Performance Center on Monday.

On April 27, Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan, as chairman of the disciplinary panel, had on two separate occasions imposed a three-year ban on Umar Akmal for violating Section 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code. The PCB will not comment further on the matter until a decision is announced by Mohammad Khokhar.

It may be recalled that Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan, chairman of the disciplinary committee of the PCB, banned Umar Akmal for three years. According to the decision, Umar Akmal has been banned for 3 years for violating both the charges included in the PCB Anti-Corruption Code and this ban will be effective from February 20, 2020, the day of suspension of Omar Akmal.

Umar Akmal was issued a notice of charge on March 17 for violating Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two separate incidents and both terms of the sentence will be carried out simultaneously. Akmal’s case was referred to the Chairman Disciplinary Panel on April 9. Chairman Independent Disciplinary Panel Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan, while giving his remarks in a detailed judgment, said that apparently Omar Akmal was neither seeking remorse nor was he ready to apologize for his mistake.
