Lahore, 21st June: During a high-level investigation, the police has trashed the ‘baseless’ allegations against the former senator Rehman Malik made by the American blogger Cynthia D Ritchie.
According to a report by Baaghi TV, police in its investigation report on the complaint of the US citizen Ms. Cynthia Dawn Ritchie has termed her allegations against Senator A. Rehman Malik as suspicious, unsubstantiated and inadequate for registering an FIR.
The lady appeared in the police station and was cross-questioned by the team of police officers and she failed to give any evidence in support of her false claims to harm his reputation. Rehman Malik has come out clean as the lady failed to substantiate the baseless allegations.
Rehman Malik refutes the allegations of rape by Cynthia D Richie
The police investigation further reveals that in the last paragraph of the petition, it is alleged that she was raped in 2011 but on checking the records it is found that the said person neither had reported such incident to this police station nor at that time any complaint was received or filed from the concerned US embassy.
Ritchie, 44, first came to Pakistan in 2010 and has more or less resided in the country since then. Ritchie describes herself on her social media platforms as “an American freelance director, producer, and writer”. Her Facebook page has more than 300,000 followers while on Twitter, she has more than 200,000 followers. She also has a YouTube page that features videos of her exploring different parts of Pakistan.
Until the case is resolved, this should be done with Rehman Malik: Cynthia demanded
On 28 May, Ritchie tweeted that Bhutto would order her guards to rape women who had affairs with her husband. After that PPP filed a suit against her for defamation, Ritchie then made her allegations on GeoTV.
In a video interview on her Facebook page on 7 June, Ritchie went on air with stunning accusations, alleging that he was raped by then interior minister Rehman Malik in 2011, “physically manhandled” by former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin and former prime minister Yousaf Gilani.

The former ministers have denied her accusations, but Ritchie took to Twitter to say she was ready to defend her claims in the court of law. “All the documents, voice notes, filthy images, and rape threats from PPP, the data scientists who’ve assisted in putting together this episode of harassment. I hope PPP is ready for my suit,” she wrote.

Secretariat Police in the application by Cynthia D Richie stated that she has not filed any application with Secretariat Police Station regarding her rape allegations back in 2011. Police also maintained any medical report has also not been attached to the application as evidence that she was raped to prove her allegation in such cases.
Can’t file case against Cynthia: Islamabad police
Police officials in application underlined that stance of Cynthia has been found doubtful in absence of substantial evidence.
The position of Senator Rehman Malik in this case stands vindicated. The charges against Yousaf Raza Gilani are also without any evidence.
Cynthia Ritchie reveals more details against Rehman Malik
A citizen, Waqas Abbasi, had submitted the plea for registration of a case against Cynthia for making inappropriate and defamatory allegations about former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in her tweets.
The additional district and sessions court on Saturday ordered to furnish final arguments on a petition filed for registration of a criminal case against US blogger Cynthia D Ritchie and adjourned the hearing till June 24.
During the hearing, the Bani Gala police submitted its report in the matter and mentioned that a criminal case might not be registered against the US blogger as such a case was of cybercrime and fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
After FIA, PTA also opposes to register case against Cynthia
The police in its report submitted that if any action is required against Cynthia, the FIA should be consulted.
Earlier, a two paged reserve verdict was announced at the Islamabad court on Pakistan Peoples Party Islamabad President Shakeel Abbasi’s petition, seeking registration of a criminal case against Cynthia for passing extremely derogatory and slanderous remarks about Benazir Bhutto.
According to the Tribune, the judge wrote in the verdict that Benazir “died in the year 2007 and there is a lapse of more than 12 years in between this intervening period but the accused never agitated this fact before any forum or Competent Authority and even not disclosed on any media. So, at this stage after a lapse of 12 years her disclosure to malign the character of the deceased leader is apparently based upon mala-fide.”
In the case against Cynthia D. Ritchie, Bani Gala police receded
The verdict stated, “There is no denial from the accused [Cynthia] that she created this tweet on social media. Hence, a crime has been committed falling under Peca Act 2016 and FIA is competent to investigate the matter in accordance with the law.”
It read, “Under the circumstances, the application is hereby accepted and FIA is directed to proceed in accordance with the law, conduct an inquiry and if there is sufficient material, register an FIR.”
