A Dalit man, K. Karuppusamy, was assaulted in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district by an upper-caste Hindu, M. Senniyappan, for allegedly showing “disrespect” by not standing when Senniyappan sat at a roadside eatery.

The incident occurred at a bakery, with Senniyappan confronting Karuppusamy the following day, beating him near a petrol station.

A case has been filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and Karuppusamy is receiving treatment at a government hospital. The assault highlights ongoing caste-based violence in the region.
