It may be recalled that on April 2, the Sindh High Court had ruled on the appeals filed by four accused in the murder case following the abduction of American journalist Daniel Pearl. However, the death sentence of the main accused Omar Sheikh was changed to 7 years imprisonment.

The bench in its judgment granted the plea of the three accused and ordered their release. The convict Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh alias Sheikh Omar had the death sentence changed to 7 years imprisonment. Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who has been in jail for the past 18 years, was expected to be released after serving a full sentence of seven years.
