DC fans threaten to boycott Aquaman 2 for not firing Amber Heard
Jan 9, 2022: After years of speculation about Amber Heard returning to play Mera in Aquaman 2, fans have now decided to boycott the movie.
Following rumours about Amber Heard returning to play Mera in Aquaman 2, including multiple campaigns to fire her and recast Emilia Clarke in the role, which amounted to nothing, fans have now decided to boycott the movie.
Following the announcement of the second installment of the film, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, by the director of the sequel, James Vaughan, fans demanded that the creators boycott Heard after a domestic abuse case in which she and her ex-husband Johnny Depp were emboriled. Immediately after the announcement, # BoycottAquaman2 and #JusticeForJohnnyDepp became trending topics on Twitter as fans reiterated that they did not want to see Hurd’s involvement in the film.
The petition, called ‘ Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2 ‘ has been signed by more than 1.86m fans who are threatening to boycott the DC blockbuster, due to be released next year. The final line in the petition reads: “Do the right thing. Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2.”
Amber Heard is currently in the midst of a legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Amber Heard has been claiming that Johnny Depp abused her. However, Johnny Depp and his legal team seem to be firm on the fact that she is faking the photos of her reported abuse.
In August last year, a US court ruled that Johnny Depp’s two-year-old defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Heard will not be dismissed.
Fairfax County Chief Judge Penney Azcarate rejected Heard’s motion to dismiss the case.
The decision marked a major victory for the actor in his ongoing warfare with his ex, which began in 2016 during their divorce in California and has now outlasted their brief, tumultuous marriage. Heard had claimed during the divorce proceesings that Depp has thrown a cell phone at her face while at their home in Los Angeles. Depp vehemently denied all her allegations and the Los Angeles police who went to their loft the night of the alleged abuse said they found no evidence of a crime when they arrived.
For the past two years, Heard’s multiple legal teams have been trying to get Depp’s Virginia lawsuit dismissed, thus far with no success.
In another victory for Depp in the defamation case, a New York judge partially granted a petition to determine if Heard donated the entirety of her $7 million divorce settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union and to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, as she had pledged.
As a result of that ruling last month, the ACLU must release documents that confirm whether or not Heard followed through on the donation promise, which has become a point of contention in the Virginia case.
Thanks to the long drawn court battle and the resulting publicity, Depp was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen as dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.
Pointing to the double standards, one Twitter user wrote, “Warner Bros fired Johnny Depp because of an on going case, yet Amber Heard is still in Aquaman 2. The best way to get them back is to not watch their film. #BoycottAquaman2 #JusticeForJohnnyDepp.”
After attempts by fans to get her fired from the role failed, the fight moved on to tanking the movie as a whole via a boycott including signed petitions on Twitter.
“As much as I would love to watch Aquaman 2, they are yet to fire Amber Heard, so I’ll be refusing to watch it until then,”
“#AquamanAndTheLostKingdom #Aquaman #JusticeForJohnnyDepp,” added another.
“If Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has Amber Heard still playing Mera then I’ll be skipping that movie and won’t watch,” a third wrote.
@wbpictures is employing @realamberheard despite her past as a domestic abuser. We will boycott aquaman 2. Steal anything we related, protest, burn it to the ground. We will never rest.

I will continue to boycott Aquaman 2 and @wbpictures since they turned a blind eye and hired Amber Heard. If you want to see a good movie go see #CityOfLies or #MinamataFilm with Johnny Depp. Both are excellent films.

Depp’s former bandmate, Bill Beano Hanti blamed Depp’s addiction to substances on Heard and even went as far as to say that she is the person that caused his entire life to “go down hill.”
During his interview with the Daily Mail he was also quoted saying that Amber “Ruined his life, it really did. It totally [expletive] his career over, cost him his friends, part of his family.”
Hanti also added, “She got inside John’s head and made him absolutely crazy to the point where he was drinking and drugging, to the point of insanity.”
