Lahore, 8th May: Chairman Independent Disciplinary Panel Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan on Thursday submitted a detailed verdict in the Umar Akmal case to the Pakistan Cricket Board. The detailed decision has been published on www.pcb.com.pk which is available here.

Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan has imposed a three-year ban on Umar Akmal for violating both the charges included in the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, which will come into force on February 20, 2020. Both periods of disqualification will be processed simultaneously. Umar Akmal will now be eligible to participate in cricket activities again on February 19, 2023.

Umar Akmal was issued a notice of charge on March 17 for violating Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two separate incidents. The PCB had on April 9 referred the case of Umar Akmal to the Chairman Disciplinary Panel for not appearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

Chairman Independent Disciplinary Panel Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan, while giving his remarks in a detailed judgment, said that apparently Umar Akmal was neither seeking remorse nor was he ready to apologize for his mistake.

This confirms that he (Umar Kamal) failed to fulfill his responsibilities under Article 2.4.4 of the Anti-Corruption Code. On the contrary, they have been trying to suffice with the fact that in the past they have been informing themselves about such contacts.

Chairman Independent Disciplinary Panel Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan in his written judgment remarked that as far as Charge No.1 is concerned, he did not find any cases in it which could reduce the nature of the crime. Especially when the party (Umar Akmal) did not cooperate with the PCB’s Vigilance and Security Department and the investigation team.

The remarks said that the allegations against the party (Umar Akmal) were substantiated in view of the PCB’s vigilance and security department’s failure to immediately acknowledge the liaison regarding the liaison and the party (Umar Akmal) under Article 2.4.4. will present himself as guilty of violating.

The written decision states that he (Umar Akmal) also admitted that he had failed to inform the PCB’s Security and Vigilance Department about the liaison under PCB Code 2.4.4, therefore, the allegation is substantiated and the parties (Umar Akmal) present themselves as eligible under Article 6.2 of the PCB Code.

Umar Akmal can appeal against the verdict within 14 days.
