The General Consulate of Afghanistan in Karachi, Abdul Jabar Takhari, said that the Pakistani police have intensified the process of detaining Afghans in Sindh state and Karachi.

Takhari added that in the past few days, 450 Afghan immigrants have been detained by the Pakistani police in the Sindh state.

“Arresting Afghans started in the state of Sindh and the city of Karachi by the Sindh police and a large number of them have been detained and imprisoned. Their number was more than 400 yesterday, and I think more than 50 have been detained and imprisoned today,” Takhari noted.

During a meeting with the General Consulate of the Islamic Emirate, some Afghan citizens in Karachi claimed that the Pakistani police detain those with valid identification cards before releasing them after receiving money.

“Most Afghans claim that they [Pakistani police] demand money from them and if they give money, they will release them. If they do not give, they will not release them and will put them in prison,” Takhari said.

According to the council, most of the Afghan immigrants have been detained in the Sindh state of Pakistan.
