DG ISPR responds to Indian army chief’s misleading comment about ceasefire on LOC #Baaghi

Feb 4, 2022: The DG ISPR has responded to Indian army chief’s comment about ceasefire on LOC and had termed the Indian claim of holding ceasefire on the basis of their powerful position “misleading”.

DG ISPR further added that “no side should misconstrue it as their strength or other’s weakness.”

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar has categorically rejected the Indian Chief of Army Staff’s claim that the war on the Line of Control (LoC) was a misleading one. The Indian side claimed the ceasefire is in place because they negotiated from a “position of power.”

According to Indian army chief General Manoj Mukhand Narvane, “Ceasefire with Pakistan continues to hold as we negotiated from a position of strength.”

However, the Pakistani military spokesperson rejected the claim and said no side should misconstrue it as their strength or other’s weakness.

A military spokesman said on Friday that contrary to what the Indian chief alleged, the agreement to ceasefire was reached because of Pakistan’s concerns for the safety of the Kashmiri people living on both sides of the LoC. The statement, released from the DG ISPR’s official Twitter account, came in response to comments from India’s top military commander who had taken credit for maintaining a nearly year-long ceasefire with the LOC.

Last year, the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan, after reviewing the situation in the LOC and all other sectors, agreed to re-impose the ceasefire effective 25 February 2021. An ISPR statement said the two DGs of military operations had contacted the hotline to seek “mutually beneficial and lasting peace”.

It said they agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns, which tend to disrupt peace and lead to violence. The two sides agreed to strictly adhere to all agreements, understandings and ceasefires on the LOC and all other sectors.
