Dr. Seemi Jamali gives details of the attack on JPMC Karachi

Lahore, 15th May: Dr. Seemi Jamali of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) in Karachi gives details of the attacks on the hospital when the survivors of a deceased coronavirus patient wanted to recover the body.
According to Baaghi TV, when the body of a patient who died of the COVID-19 was being stopped forcibly to take away from Jinnah Medical Center Karachi, the enraged people created a great commotion and also tortured the doctors.
According to Dr. Jamali, more than 20 people vandalized an isolation ward of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi following the administration refused to hand over the body of a coronavirus patient immediately.

The 60-year-old patient was shifted from the Dow University of Health Sciences’ (DUHS) Ojha campus to the JPMC on Wednesday in a critical condition. However, he died Thursday evening.
The mob attacked the ward located on the ground floor of the hospital after the management told them that the family cannot take the body without permission of the administration.
“It was an attack,” said Dr. Seemi Jamali, the director of JPMC. Everything in the ward was ransacked, she added.
She said that the incident created fear and panic among the medical staff caring for other patients.

Dr. Jamali said that Rangers and police were called in immediately and at least 10 people have been arrested so far. “The law enforcement agencies have now been deployed at the hospital.”

According to her, no one can take a COVID-19 positive patient’s body without following certain guidelines as per the standard operation procedures (SOPs) of the government.
