Islamabad harassment case: Female victim withdraws statement, refuses to pursue case

Jan 12, 2022: According to a report by Geo Tv, the female victim of the Islamabad couple’s harassment case on Tuesday withdrew her statement and submitted an affidavit refusing to pursue the case further.

Earlier, the victim’s statement in the case was recorded before a magistrate in which she said that Usman Mirza and the other accused had threatened to gang rape her if she did not give in to their demands.

The victim said she was forced to dance nude in front of Usman and his accomplices, adding that she was beaten when she refused.

During the hearing of the case, the victim submitted a stamp paper in the court and said that the case was made by the police themselves, I have not identified any accused and I have not signed any documents.

“I have not taken the oath under any pressure,” she said. She further claimed that police had taken his signature and thumbprints on blank papers several times. “I do not know any of the accused in this case and I do not want to take this case further,” she said. Pointing to one of the accused in the case, she said, “I have only seen Rehan and other accused in the police stations. I don’t even know them.”

“No one has tried to assault me sexually, neither I know Rehan and nor he was making my video,” she claimed.

She also denied giving ransom money to anyone.

In July last year, a video surfaced on social media showing Usman Mirza, the main accused in the case, beating and harassing a young couple in a room full of other men. Within hours of the video going viral, Islamabad police arrested Mirza and filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the case. Later, seven persons, including Usman Mirza, were indicted in a case of harassment of Islamabad couple.

Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani had indicted all the accused, including Hafiz Ataur Rehman, Farhan Shaheen, Adaras Qayyum Butt, Rehan Hassan Mughal, Umar Bilal and Mohib Bangash.

Furthermore, Islamabad High Court had rejected the bail appeals of the three accused and directed the authorities to complete Usman Mirza’s trial case in two months.
