The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially announced that the upcoming general elections are scheduled to take place in the last week of January 2024. This decision follows a review of the constituency delimitation process, with the initial constituency list set to be published on September 27. After considering objections and suggestions, the final constituency list will be released on November 30. The election campaign will span 54 days, culminating in the elections in late January.

This announcement comes shortly after the ECP disclosed plans to meet with political parties next month to discuss the code of conduct for the general elections. A draft code of conduct has already been shared with political parties for their input. The draft outlines that political parties, candidates, and election agents are prohibited from promoting views or actions that could harm Pakistan’s ideology, sovereignty, integrity, security, morality, public order, or the independence of the judiciary and government institutions, including the armed forces.

The ECP had previously ruled out holding elections in the current year due to the need for a fresh delimitation of constituencies, stemming from the latest 2023 digital census notification.
