Election Act Amendment Bill shown in joint Parliament sitting
The government decided to introduce the Election Act Amendment Bill in the joint sitting of the Parliament. The Bill carried rules for the usage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as well as Internet voting for the international Pakistani community.
According to reports, the Election Act Amendment Bill was introduced at the joint Parliament meeting and contains rules for Electronic Voting Machines and Internet voting for overseas Pakistanis.
An amendment to the proposed bill also proposes to delegate the power to compile electoral rolls from the Election Commission to NADRA.
In this regard, the President had convened a meeting of the National Assembly at 11 am today but the quorum of the National Assembly could not be reached after which the sitting was adjourned till 5 pm on Monday.
It is to be noted that last month in August, Prime Minister Imran Khan himself gave a practical demonstration of how the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) work. These machines were built and developed by the institutions namely the National University for Science and Technology (NUST), COMSATS, and National Institute of Engineering (NIE). The machines will ensure transparency in the voting process, and make certain that no form of rigging is involved.
