The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to raise electricity by Rs 1.93 per unit.

According to sources in NEPRA, the request for raising the price of electricity has been made on the basis of July Fuel Price Adjustment. Moreover, they had to say that the approval of this application will put a burden of over Rs 26 billion on the electricity consumers.

Sources said that a total of 14.23 billion units of electricity were generated in July against which a total revenue of Rs 74.90 billion was collected.

According to sources, the final decision for the increase in electricity prices will be decided by NEPRA on September 4, 2019.
