Sept 27, 2021: According to a report published on ESPNcricinfo, England all-rounder Moin Ali, 34, has decided to retire from Test cricket and he will formally announce his decision soon.
England star Moin Ali has formally informed his team’s head coach and captain of his decision. However, he is expected to continue his career in whiteball cricket for England and continue to play county and franchise cricket. According to the report, he was anxious about being away from home as a possible member of both the T20 World Cup and Ashes teams in the coming months.
He is currently in the United Arab Emirates, playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, but is thought to have briefed England head coach Chris Silverwood and England Test captain Joe Root in recent days.
In his Test career, Moin scored 2,914 runs at an average of 28.29 in 64 Tests and took 195 wickets. At his highest position, he was ranked the third best all-rounder in the ICC Test rankings. His best performance, such as scoring four Test centuries for England in 2016, made him look better than his place in the team as an expert.
The batting average in the last Test is 28 which seems trivial for such a gifted player. An unbeaten 108 in his second Test against Sri Lanka promised a lot. He took 25 wickets in four Tests against South Africa in 2017, or 32 wickets in six Tests against Sri Lanka and the West Indies in the winter of 2018-19. Speed and cutting will delight any off-spinner.
Moin was contemplating his Test future with those closest to him during the recent India series when the 34-year-old all-rounder began to question his ability to focus in the longest format. Details of the quarantine and living conditions for the Ashes tour of Australia were on his mind before he was sent to the England and Wales Cricket Board on Friday.
Although England are hopeful that the aforementioned arrangements will not led to more withdrawals, Moin only feels that he has run his race after 64 Test caps and is now looking to master white ball cricket for England. He is playing for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League on a contract worth Rs 700,000.
Silverwood and Root understood the decision as they contemplated their Ashes plans – Moin was part of the setup to win the T20 World Cup before the tour – and shared their gratitude for a Test career starting in 2014 Played and won five centuries, 195 wickets, 28 Test victories and nine series.
