Lahore, 3rd March: Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda has resigned from his National Assembly seat.

Baaghi TV: According to reports, Faisal Vawda has resigned from his NA seat and submitted the same to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday.

Vawda’s lawyer contended that a dual nationality case against him was not valid now.

According to reports, Vawda’s lawyer submitted the resignation in the court during the hearing of a petition seeking the minister’s disqualification from the National Assembly as at the time of filing his nomination papers for the 2018 general elections, he was a dual nationality holder.

Justice Amir Farooq heard the case.

The lawyer said, “Faisal Vawda has resigned from the National Assembly which is why this petition has become invalid.”

Soon after hearing the arguments, the IHC reserved its verdict in the disqualification case being heard against the minister.

However, sources within the National Assembly speaker’s chamber stated that they have not received Vawda’s resignation.

A source revealed that the legislative department of the lower house has not received the resignation yet. They said that according to the rules, the resignation is confirmed only when it reaches NA Speaker Asad Qaiser.

It is to be noted that Faisal Vawda had won the 2018 general election from Karachi’s NA-249 constituency.

In January last year, a report published in The News had revealed that Vawda had falsely declared in an oath to the ECP that he did not hold any foreign nationality.

According to the report from The News, Vawda was holding a US passport at the time he filed his nomination papers on June 11, 2018. The minister remained an American national even when the investigation of his nomination papers was completed.

As per reports, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had specifically said that candidates who hold dual nationality are supposed to submit a certificate to renounce their foreign nationality along with their nomination papers.
