Fake news must be tackled by UN task force: FM Bhutto

During a virtual meeting with the Group of Friends, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari requested the UN Secretary General to establish an inter-agency task force to eradicate fake news.

Radio Pakistan reported that the Foreign Minister stressed on the necessity for the countries of the world to create a process or mechanism whereby they may identify, scrutinise and expose false news about governments and their agencies, both national and international. He called for the world to financially and technically support institutions and researchers that can detect this misinformation.

He noted that “the United Nations Department of Information can play an important role in this regard. And with this move, it will be possible to prevent false news.

Bilawal Bhutto expressed that it is essential for all the countries to work with each other, creating a connection between countries and groups so that they can decrease the effects of misinformation on human rights and relations between different communities and states.
