Fazal ur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, said at a tribal gathering in Peshawar that Islamabad’s claim of the Durand Line being a border is not acceptable from Afghanistan’s perspective.
He warned that neither country should take unilateral actions along this line.
He stated: “Whoever says the Durand Line is a border, these are one-sided statements and they are not acceptable to Afghanistan. I must say that in this region, neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan should act unilaterally.”
Some political analysts believe these remarks may create internal political pressure in Pakistan to reconsider its border policies.
Political analyst Saleem Paigir said: “Fazal ur Rehman’s remarks could generate political pressure on the Pakistani government, making them more cautious and mindful of Afghan reactions when making decisions on the other side of the Durand Line.”
Military analyst Kamran Aman said: “Pakistan has always claimed that other countries have recognized this line. They assert that it is not an imaginary line but an official one. However, the people of Afghanistan have never accepted it, and no Afghan or government has dared to present it as a concession.”
The Durand Line has been one of the most contentious and unresolved issues between Kabul and Islamabad for decades and has occasionally led to strained relations and clashes between the two sides.
