FBR freezes PIA’s bank accounts over unpaid taxes

In the latest development, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken action to freeze Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) bank accounts due to unresolved tax payment issues, as confirmed by a statement from PIA’s spokesperson, Abdullah Hafeez Khan, on Wednesday.
Despite the account freeze, PIA’s management remains in active communication with the FBR, expressing hope for a swift resolution and the eventual unblocking of the frozen accounts.
PIA’s operations, including flight services and other activities, continue to function normally, according to the airline’s spokesperson, even in the face of this financial setback.
The outstanding tax amount in question has sparked a discrepancy, with sources indicating that PIA owes approximately Rs 2.8 billion to the FBR. In contrast, the airline contests the figure, claiming its dues amount to roughly Rs1.3 billion. The disagreement over the owed tax remains unresolved at present.
