Tax scam in FBR reveals authorities allegedly made huge sales tax refunds to big retailers

The online Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) server disruptions have caused severe problems for online tax return filers. Despite that, the FBR has refused to extend the submission deadline.

FBR officials say the portal is under pressure due to the rush of submitters due to which online tax return submitters are facing difficulties.

Note that the last date for submission of tax returns is September 30 and the FBR has refused to extend the date for submission of tax returns.

It is to be noted that the FBR’s system has come under attack multiple times in the past, signifying a need to desperately upgrade the system. In a not-so-old incident, the system was hacked and remained in the hackers’ possession for seven days. Fortunately, it was recovered and efforts are being made to upgrade it.

However, the point of concern here is that despite an $80 million dollar loan from World Bank, 2 years ago in 2019, the system has remained unchanged even now.
