Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tareen says the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) system was hacked and remained in possession of the Indian hackers for 7 days. The culprits have not yet been found.

According to details, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, while briefing the Senate finance committee, revealed that the FBR’s system was hacked by Indian hackers and had remained in their possession for 7 days. Previously, those Indian hackers had hacked the system in 2019 as well.

The Finance Minister further said that the FBR’s system was now being upgraded for greater security but the culprits had not yet been caught.

It may be recalled that last month the Finance Minister confirmed that the FBR’s system was hacked but did not cause any serious damage and as such, the system remained active.

Shaukat Tarin had said that the FBR has submitted a detailed report in this regard which will be viewed by foreign experts. Furthermore, measures are being taken to improve the system so such an incident does not happen again.
