Fear of Omicron: UAE bans four countries
In the fear of Omicron’s spread, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has imposed sanctions on four countries.
The Arab news agency Khaleej Times reports that the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) have arrived from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria. It has announced the suspension of all flights operations from December 25.
In addition, foreigners residing in these countries for more than 14 days will be barred from entering the UAE. However, UAE citizens, close relatives, diplomatic missions, government delegations and Golden Residence holders were excluded from the decision.
Earlier, Israel had placed both countries on a “red list” in terms of travel to prevent the rapid spread of the new form of corona omicron in the United States and Canada. Israeli citizens are required to obtain a special permit to enter the country, as well as those entering the country under strict surveillance.
Meanwhile, due to the fear of Omicron, strict checks have been directed on flights from UK to Pakistan. CAA has received new instructions regarding flights from UK to Pakistan. Passengers arriving in Pakistan from the UK will be required to have a Corona PCR test 48 hours before the flight, according to civil aviation officials.
It may be recalled that the World Health Organization (WHO) had said yesterday that the Omicron variant has spread to more than 95 countries of the world. It spreads faster than Delta and is more resistant to vaccines.
