FIA arrests Islamabad's ASI for Allegedly Leaking Sensitive Information

ISLAMABAD: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Golra Police Station has been arrested by the anti-terrorism wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for allegedly passing classified information to a foreign diplomat.

According to the detail, FIA’s anti-terrorism wing has arrested an Islamabad police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Zahoor Ahmed for exchanging sensitive information with a foreign ambassador.

The suspect was arrested on a tip-off after the FIA ​​received information that the accused will meet the foreign ambassador at the Jinnah Avenue metro bus station, and provide the ambassador with information and related documents, which is an anti-national act.

In response to the report, the FIA formed a team consisting of officials from the Counter-Terrorism Wing which waited in the same area. After some time, the car came back and took ASI out of the vehicle from where he was taken into custody.

Two mobile phones, a wallet, an envelope full of Rs 50,000 cash and USBs were recovered from the ASI while the accused failed to satisfy the demand of officers for explanation. Officials said the Zahoor Ahmed revealed that it had taken money from a foreign diplomat and provided him with intelligence and documents.

A statement issued by the FIA ​​confirmed that they have arrested Zahoor Ahmed and an investigation has been launched against the accused. The FIA ​​assured the police that they would fulfil all legal requirements during the investigation, but the police also provided full cooperation in the investigation.
