July 11, 2021: A local court on Saturday remanded seven accused, including National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) officials, on charges of issuing Pakistani national identity cards to foreigners in exchange for bribes.

The East Judicial Magistrate was hearing the case in Karachi City Court. At the beginning of the hearing, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced the accused NADRA officials and co-accused in court. The investigating officer informed the court that the accused had issued Pakistani NICs to Burmese, Afghan and Iranian nationals. He informed that FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Cell arrested the accused during the operation against NADRA Technical Director General Kashif Nazir.

The court remanded the accused in FIA custody for three days. According to the FIA, the accused include NADRA officials, Ashfaq Khan, Khayal Khan, Mohammad Ibrahim and Abdul Wahab, and two others, Mohammad Rasool and Akhtar Mohammad.

Amir Farooqi, director of FIA Sindh Zone 1, told the media on Thursday that some FIA ​​and NADRA officers had been recruited by enemy agencies to issue fake NICs to terrorists. He added that a fake CNIC was issued to Imran Ali, an Indian national who was also involved in the Safura Goth terror incident.

He further said that about three to four million fake NICs have been issued to foreign nationals.
