India: Senior Congress leaders have filed a police complaint against Indian Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Amit Shah, and organisers of a BJP rally for making provocative statements, promoting enmity and hatred and maligning opposition in the Indian state of Karnataka.
The FIR was lodged by the senior Congress leaders, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Dr Parmeshwar, and DK Shivakumar against Amit Shah in Bengaluru’s High Grounds Police Station.
Addressing a public meeting at Terdal in Belagavi district of Karnataka earlier this week, Amit Shah said, “If Congress comes to power, dynastic politics will be at an all-time high and Karnataka will be afflicted with riots”.
Karnataka Congress chief, DK Shivakumar, said that action should be taken against Amit Shah according to law. “If a common man had done it, he would have been arrested. The Home Minister cannot say if Congress comes to power there will be communal riots. He’s the home minister, not the star campaigner of the BJP,” he said.
“More than 20 cases have been filed against me for nothing. The Indian National Congress has already filed a complaint with the Election Commission. After filing the complaint there, we came here,” he added.
Confirming the move, senior Congress leader, Randeep Singh Surjewala, said, “We have come to the High Grounds PS with an important issue. We have filed an FIR against Home Minister Amit Shah.”
