Fishing row talks between France and UK declared ‘useful and positive’

The French Europe minister claims that the Talks to resolve the fishing row between the countries: UK and France were “useful and positive”.

But unfortunately there was no breakthrough and more talks are scheduled to be held next week. Tensions increased last month after the UK and Jersey refused fishing permits to several French boats. France has threatened to stop British fishing ships from landing their catches at French ports unless more permits are granted in return covering UK waters.  Clement Beaune claims that his meeting with Lord Frost, the British Brexit leader his has been useful and positive, even though the issue is yet to be resolved.

According to Mr.Beaune: “All options are still on the table, he further stated that: “as long as dialogue seems possible… we are giving it a chance”. He further stated that he wishes for France to receive more fishing permits and that there is still alot of effort needed in this regard.

Boris Johnson’s official spokesman stated that France’s Government had given assurances that the talks will continue but this doen not mean that they will allow french fishing boats to land thereby not resolving the threats issued to them. Lord Frost is scheduled to meet with Maros Sefcovic, European Commission vice-president in Brussels on Friday. Furthermore, a British trawler previously taken into custody for not having a liscense was released on Wednesday.
