Feb 6, 2022: At least five Pakistani soldiers were killed in a cross-border attack by terrorists from Afghanistan on Pakistan’s troops stationed in Kurram District, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The army’s media wing said Pakistani troops responded to the attack, adding that “terrorists had suffered heavy casualties” according to “intelligence reports”. Among those killed in the exchange of fire were 34-year-old Lance Naik Ajab Noor (resident of Karachi), 22-year-old soldier Ziaullah Khan (resident of Lakki Marwat) and 23-year-old soldier Naheed Iqbal. (Karak resident), 18-year-old soldier Sameerullah Khan (resident of Bannu) and 27-year-old soldier Sajid Ali (resident of Bahawalnagar).
“Pakistan strongly condemns the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for activities against Pakistan and expects that the interim Afghan Government will not allow such activities against Pakistan in future,” the statement added.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has strongly condemned the cross-border attack on security forces in Kurram district. In a statement on Sunday, he expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of security personnel in the attack and called on the Taliban government to stop such terrorist acts as promised.
The minister paid rich tributes to the martyrs and said that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
He urged the Taliban government to “fulfil” its promise of controlling cross-border terrorism.
