Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi says Armenian forces must withdraw from Azerbaijan and Pakistan stands with the leadership and people of Azerbaijan in difficult times.

According to the details, these views were expressed by Shah Mehmood Qureshi during a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov.

Expressing concern over the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the FM Qureshi said that Pakistan fully supports the position of Azerbaijan. He said that a humanitarian ceasefire between the two countries was a positive step towards regional peace and stability.

The Foreign Minister expressed deep concern on the deteriorating security situation in Nagorno-Karabakh (NKB) and expressed full solidarity with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan and its people at this difficult time. He said that Pakistan believed in restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan over NKB and Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.

He expressed deep concerns over the reprehensible targeting and killing of civilians by the Armenian forces and hoped for a peaceful resolution of the crisis, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Qureshi further said that lasting peace depended on the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijan. He briefed his counterpart on the grave human rights violations and other repressive actions being perpetrated by the Indian occupation forces in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu &Kashmir (IIOJ&K) and also appreciated Azerbaijan’s support to the oppressed Kashmiri people at the international level.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to further enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including trade, education and culture. On this occasion, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan accepted the invitation extended by Shah Mehmood Qureshi to visit Pakistan.
