FO seeks Afghanistan’s cooperation on alleged kidnapping of envoy’s daughter

Aug 12, 2021: Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday expressed hope that the Afghan government would co-operate in providing prompt information regarding the July 16 alleged kidnapping incident involving the daughter of the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad.
“We have seen the statement of the Afghan Foreign Ministry [on the matter] and the video of the complainant,” Foreign Office spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry told the media.
It is noteworthy once again that the incoming [Afghan] delegation was given a comprehensive briefing on every aspect of the complaint and subsequent investigation.
The FO spokesperson further said that Pakistan facilitated the delegation’s visit to all the areas where the complainant had visited independently on July 16, including F-7, G-7, Rawalpindi, Daman Koh. , F-6 and F-9 parks.
According to the FO, the delegation was informed that the technical data [geo-fencing] matched the actual movement of the complainant as opposed to the statement made on that day. This was further confirmed by the statements of the taxi drivers.
The FO spokesperson added that based on a thorough investigation, the delegation was informed that the complaint did not correspond to the ground findings. The delegation was further requested to provide access to the complainant and embassy officials and phone data, as requested earlier on July 18.
The FO spokesman added that it was hoped that the Afghan government would first co-operate in providing the required information immediately.
According to the statement made by the complainant, last month, Silsila Alikhail, daughter of Afghan Ambassador Najibullah Alikhail, was reportedly abducted by unknown individuals in Islamabad and later released. She was allegedly tortured when she was being held.
Prior to the request by the Pakistan FO, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said the daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan had never been abducted and that it was a conspiracy by Kabul and New Delhi to defame the country.
“The investigation into the incident with the daughter of the Afghan ambassador has proved that it is not a kidnapping or abduction,” the minister told a news conference in Rawalpindi.
“Pakistan is facing an undeclared international hybrid war from elements who want to discredit the country and destabilize relations with China and Afghanistan,” he said.
Rashid added that Islamabad police examined more than 700 hours of footage from 300 cameras installed on the Afghan ambassador’s daughter’s travel route and interviewed more than 200 citizens.
