Former NBA player Brandon Hunter passes away, leaving basketball world in mourning
Ohio University’s head basketball coach, Jeff Boals, sadly announced the passing of Brandon Hunter on the night of Tuesday, September 12. Boals shared this news on X (formerly known as Twitter) and expressed that it was a somber day for Bobcat Nation. He wrote, “Brandon Hunter, gone way too soon— one of the best to ever wear the green and white. #RIP.” The cause of death was not disclosed by Boals.
The Orlando Magic also expressed their profound sadness at the loss of their former teammate, Brandon Hunter. They extended their deepest condolences to the entire Hunter family. The statement was issued by the Magic’s owners, the DeVos family, as well as by players, coaches, and staff of the team.
According to PEOPLE magazine, Brandon Hunter was selected by the Boston Celtics as the 56th overall pick during the 2003 NBA draft. During his one season with the Celtics, Hunter played in 36 games, averaging 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds. Subsequently, he was traded to the Orlando Magic, where he averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 31 games during the 2004-2005 season.
Following his departure from the NBA, Hunter pursued an international basketball career, playing in Greece, Italy, Puerto Rico, and Turkey. He later transitioned into a real estate agent and became involved in local sports management, as reported by WCPO-TV.
