Former President Donald Trump Injured in Rally Assassination Attempt in Pennsylvania

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted off stage after gunshots rang out during a rally in Pennsylvania, marking an apparent assassination attempt. Footage captured Trump grimacing and raising a hand to his right ear before ducking as a series of sharp cracks echoed through the venue. The U.S. Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him and rushed him to a waiting vehicle. Despite the chaos, Trump managed to raise a fist as he was ushered into the car.
Trump later took to his Truth Social network to inform his followers that a bullet had pierced the “upper part” of his right ear. His spokesperson confirmed that he was receiving treatment at a local medical center. “I knew immediately that something was wrong. I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” Trump wrote. “Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
Blood was visible on Trump’s ear and face as protection officers hurried him away. According to U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, the suspect was shot dead at the scene. The shooting also resulted in one bystander’s death and left two others critically injured, all of whom were male.
Law enforcement sources told CBS News that the attacker, a male armed with a rifle, had fired from an elevated structure a few hundred meters away outside the venue. FBI agents, who are leading the investigation, have “tentatively identified” the deceased gunman but have yet to establish a motive. Special Agent Kevin Rojek confirmed the agency is treating the shooting as an assassination attempt. The suspect was not carrying identification, and investigators are utilizing DNA to confirm his identity.
President Biden, speaking from his home state of Delaware, condemned the attack, calling it “sick” and stating, “There’s no place in America for this kind of violence.” The White House confirmed that President Biden had spoken with Trump before returning to Washington, D.C.
The incident comes as Trump remains engaged in a tight race with President Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in a rematch of the 2020 election. Politicians from both parties have joined Biden in condemning the apparent attack. Trump was set to accept his party’s nomination for president at the upcoming convention in Milwaukee and was speculated to reveal his running mate at the Butler rally.
Some Republicans were quick to blame President Biden for the shooting, accusing him of inciting fears about Trump’s potential return to office. Senator JD Vance, a potential vice-presidential candidate, and Republican Congressman Mike Collins accused the president of “inciting an assassination.” James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, announced plans to summon the director of the Secret Service before his panel.
